You’ve probably noticed the lack of posts here at MichiganMoments over the past few days. That’s because ArtPrize debuts in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Wednesday, September 23. Grand Rapids, Michigan is now the home to the work of 1,262 artists from all over the world. And in a unique twist, the public will choose the $250,000 winner via text messages and online voting.
MichiganMoments is proud to announce four of our photographers are currently participating in the world’s largest contemporary art competition! MichiganMoments creator Stacy Niedzwiecki and members John Dykstra, Brad Reed and Todd Reed are all part of the this exciting, unprecedented event.
Please support some of Michigan’s finest photographers – who have worked extremely hard over the past month, preparing their exhibits for you to enjoy. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to vote one of them into the top 10 artists?

ArtPrize basics
- Competition runs Wednesday through Oct. 10 in downtown Grand Rapids
- Art is showcased at about 160 venues spread through 3 square miles encompassing five walkable districts
- Venues include buildings, plazas, parks, bridges and waterways
- Venue hours: 5-8 pm Mon.-Thu., noon-10 pm Fri.-Sat., noon-6 pm Sun.
- The Top 10 artists will be announced Oct. 1
- The second round of voting ends Oct. 7 just before midnight
- Winners will be announced Oct. 8

How to vote
- Voters must register in person at one of 14 designated sites. You’ll need a government-issued ID, such as a driver’s license
- Votes are cast electronically — online at artprize.org, via mobile browser or text message.
- During Week One, you can vote “up” or “down” on as many artists as you want (“Down” votes do not count against an artist. They are intended to document works eliciting strong reaction)
- After the Top 10 is announced on Oct. 1, you can vote for one winner
- During the first week, summaries of leading vote receivers will be listed online
