Bob deJongeRobert deJonge

Bob has been working as a professional designer and photographer for over thirty years. When computer imaging met personal computing in the mid-1980′s he was quick to see the possibilities. “It’s not easy blending the technical aspect of my craft with the creative playfulness necessary for exciting work, but I hope that my ‘eyes of a child’ approach to images and my professional skill is evident in every piece I produce.”

Bob’s work hangs in many private collections and he has been honored with selection as an Artist-in-Residence in several national parks – 2005 at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, 2006 at Acadia National Park, and 2007 at Petrified Forest National Park. His most recent honor was the selection of two of his works to hang in the Michigan Governor’s residence in Lansing.

He makes his home in Petoskey, Michigan where there is plenty of natural inspiration. “I’m always open to new subjects and new places, but Northern Michigan is my first love. My Christian faith calls me to be diligent and selfless in using the creative gifts I’ve been given, and calls me to be mindful of protecting and caring for the earth and all its inhabitants. Therefore:

  • My joy begins, as an artist, with exploring, discovery, and experimenting. My joy is complete when sharing that creative joy with others through the skillful execution of my work.
  • I believe that learning and building one’s skills as an artist is a life-long pursuit. I have a great curiosity and it is curiosity that drives my work. What I discover continually “grows” my art. The world I explore is incredibly diverse therefore my work tends to be diverse. Just when you think that you can peg my work as traditional, impressionistic, expressionistic, or abstract, you will find I have moved outside those boxes — a natural result of my willingness to let concepts emerge from many different places in my life.
  • The natural world is a special inspiration for my work. One of my favorite quotes is from Vincent Van Gogh – “It is not the language of painters but the language of nature which one should listen to, the feeling for the things themselves, for reality, is more important than the feeling for pictures.”

Bob offers 8×10 and 11×17 prints here at MichiganMoments – larger images can be purchased through his website or by contacting him directly.
